Fire places

Photography: Elle Decor, (middle photo) Richard Powers

Since we are renovating our Apartment I'm set on a fire place. At first I was thinking gas, but now I'm looking at these vintage fireplaces. Gas is great, but the thought of smelling real wood burning goes a long way for me. I feel like these are a easy option for those of us that live in an apartment, that would prefer to burn wood.

Lloyd Hotel, Amsterdam

This is the Llyod hotel in Amsterdam. I like these two shots but some of the photos of this place are a little insane asylum, so I didn't post them.

Adolf Loos was an architect in vienna. This is his American bar!

I love the idea of using a lot of the huge ball lights in a loft. They are cheap, simple and feel really fun.

Disco

Disco! Kinda fun. I feel I have under-estimated it. My friend Becky always keeps a disco ball around. Now I feel that I must have one! Even if it only comes out sometimes.

Boring

I don't know why this poster is in every apartment photographed, but it drives me insane. Every time I see it I start to boil. Obviously this is not the intention of the sign based on its content, but there is some thing antagonizing about it. I'm usually really calm maybe that's why it feels condescending. I couldn't imagine what would happen if I had to live with it. If I was in a shit mood and saw that thing out of the corner of my eye I think it would throw me into a rage.

Mena House, Cairo

I forgot to mention that this was one of my favorite ideas. These were hung brass beads that created such a great effect. They are a go option for dressing a window with a little privacy, but also leaving you able to see a beautiful view. I think this is a great option for modern cut out city windows. I tried to source something like it but didn't come close. I think its a diy.

Mena House, Cairo

Photography via trip adviser, and our own.
We just got back from a long and beautiful vacation. I wanted to document it, so I am starting from the end of the trip to the beginning. Our last stop was Cairo. We stayed at the Mena House which is right by the pyramids. It was originally a hunting lodge for royalty built in 1869. It is located in Giza right by the pyramids. The interior is insane, I've never seen anything quite like it!

This was one of my favorite domino layouts. It's clean, not too masculine, simple, with a lot of personality.

Sofas

Photography: Marie Claire Maison, Via Lotta Agaton

These are some of my favorite sofas. The first one is an Arne Jacobsen swan sofa. Its great for a smaller piece and it reminds me of an old baseball glove. It's a bit pricey though, so I thought of a strategy. You could buy a vintage one in fabric off of ebay and recover it with leather. The second one I love, and we are thinking of buying a circular sofa for our apartment. I think its a really nice option compared to a regular sectional. I love sitting a round table, it somehow feels more intimate than a square table. I feel the same way about a circular sofa. You can fit a lot of people there and the focus is not only on a tv, but on each other. The only downside is it takes up a lot of space. The third one I also love for a sectional because it can function between rooms. For instance, in a loft one side could face the kitchen and the other side is the living room sofa.

Subway Tile

images 1 &2 unknown 3 Kate Spade bathroom 4 domino
I love subway tile for so many reasons. Its clean, its simple, and its cheap. We are renovating right now and its something my husband and I are constantly arguing about. He thinks that its sterile and institutional. We were going so strong, it was seeming like we didn't care about the same things, but times have changed. Anyway, here is my ode to the subway tile.
